Coronavirus – Tue 24 Mar 2020 – Covid Spring, choosing who dies

Extremely well done, 5 minute video explaining the virus via @techinsider.

“Every time you break isolation, someone will die,” said the djinn. “But it will be a person you do not know.”

“Harsh, but I have work to do,” said the man.

“Done,” said the djinn. “And good luck. I am granting this wish to ten thousand people who do not know YOU.”

The stories from medical workers are now becoming just-this-side of grim. Capacities sound like they’re nearly at 100%, and the unrelenting hours are going to break them soon. Having to start making The Decision will be unimaginable.

If you need a wake-up call, here it is: My husband was on a large conference call of American med school deans last night. One asked about legal coverage for pulling people off ventilators to give to others more likely to survive. I.e., not being charged with murder. Here we are.

5 o’clock walk today. Lots of people out–too many for navigability–but most everyone tries to keep their 6-foot distance. First coworker to warn that they might be infected (being cautious, very early to tell). I hope others are as forthcoming. I’ve been out of the office for 11 days, with public contact in between. That’s how we measure things now.

Notably, I have no other other friends/family/acquaintances that I know of that may be infected. This is why the religious and spring breakers and Rand Paul refuse to be responsible.

It’s odd to watch commercials that are selling vacations, or have people going to work, or just have people shaking hands or touching their faces. There’s a jagged disconnect. Exception: Hotels.com had Captain Obvious say that you should “just stay home”. Respect.
