Coronavirus – 9 Jul 2020 – Square zero

Updated 11 Jul 2020

I read a short thread that gave me a feeling I haven’t had since the very beginning in mid-March when we were all combing through those graphs and data tables at least twice a day. It feels again like we’re realizing there’s a catastrophe starting and the shock is as if we’ve never felt it before. I think re-reading my old posts refreshed those memories of that odd time back in March (four months ago?!) when everything started hitting. There was a nervous apprehension of the unknown; everything was new. The recent unbelievable spike is magnitudes greater than what we first experienced so, yes, the is as if we’re starting anew.

“The sunbelt is burning.”

FL/GA/TX/AZ, the four mega states where GOP governors most conspicuously followed Trump’s cues to open early & widely, & who emphatically blocked D mayors from restricting or regulating that reopening even as caseloads grew, today reported 24,829 new cases. The Sunbelt is burning

I’ve realized my graph reading has been less frequent, partly because at least one person every day or so will post a relevant graph and expose what we all already knew. Well, maybe not all of us knew, and certainly not all of us believe the numbers. Those recent graphs are just horrifying. Because of the ignorant intransigence of the President, Republican governors, and MAGAs, I think this is going to last at least until the end of next year. And who knows what state we’ll be in after that?

California is only one of several states that are reporting record numbers of hospitalizations. Medical facilities in Florida, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina are being overrun by the surge of cases.

Another week, more spread of #Covid19. Bottom line: it’s worse, will continue to get worse, and will take months to improve substantially. We are going in the wrong direction, fast.

The CDC considers us to be in week 28.

Many reports coming out that aerosolized viral particles may be worse than previously considered. Again, this is a virus we’re learning about and so new risks (and hopefully a new understanding of what is not a risk) are expected. There’s discussion over how dangerous it is (uncertain), didn’t we already know this? (to some degree, yes), and why isn’t it being broadcast (science is tentative, panic is likely, politicization is nullifying the warning). I’ve documented the data about the amount and speed of dispersal (much of what is hitting mainstream was already known) and have updated with the new info on distance.

I purchased a painting by Blinky to go with the print that I picked up back in 2009. Go to his Instagram and check out his other work. The new painting looks amazing in person. And he sent some random cards and stickers with sketches on them, so bonus!
