Stray Toasters, issue 1, page 40
Stray Toasters, issue 1, page 40. Abby, a psychiatrist, sits with Todd who had appeared at her front door and is apparently autistic. Prior to this scene, she recalled the child she had lost in an accident and now avoids deciding whether to report this abandoned child.
Stray Toasters was written and illustrated by Bill Sienkiewicz of Electra: Assassin fame. Sienkiewicz (pronounced sin-KAY-vich) is a virtuoso illustrator along the lines of John Singer Sargent [Wikipedia]: his visible brushstrokes make even the most fully-realized scenes appear effortless. He's also a great experimentor, incorporating watercolor, pen and ink, gouche, air brush, rubber stamps, Xerox, and found objects (transistors, bolts, glass, etc.). Stray Toasters was a literary mess of Freudian phsycology and violence, but it was a wonderful showcase for the style that he had popularized in Electra: Assassin.
