Scientists gotta figure a way to get resources from the moon in preparation for getting resources from Mars. They say that oxygen is abundant on the moon (?!?) and can be used for life support of propultion. It is controversial whether ice exists is permanent shadows at the north and south poles. For construction, they have to fabricate lunar-like rocks here and determine the best ways they could be put to use.

Post-assassination of filmmaker Theo van Gogh (distant relative of Vincent). The Netherlands is tolerant (allowing many different groups), socialist (spreading the state wealth around to immigrants), and about to explode. Van Gogh would regularly call Islamic fundamentalists using very talk-radio type epithets. After his assassination, violence is occurring back-and-forth between Christians and Muslims.
